Lapti Nek Preservation Society

Max Rebo Band

If you were asked the trivia question, "What song did the Max Rebo Band perform in Jabba's Palace?" and answered, "Lapti Nek" you would be correct -- until 1997, when the Special Edition trilogy hit theatres, and Lapti Nek had been replaced by another song, Jedi Rocks.

The musical number was just one of many changes made to Return of the Jedi in 1997, but one of the most radical. The Max Rebo band started off in 1983 as a three piece band. We had Max himself on keyboards, Droopy McCool on winds, and Sy Snootles providing vocals. In 1997, the Max Rebo band ballooned to a whopping 12 members! In addition to the terrific original three, there were 3 backup singers and dancers Lyn Me, Rystáll, and Greeata, two drummers, Ak-rev and Umpass-stay, The mouth-harp playing frog Rappertunie, Barquin D'an, the Bith, and the Rodian Doda, filled out the horn section, and Joh Yowza become a second lead singer.

Now don't get me wrong, over all I like the Special Editions (we won't mention who shot first in the cantina), and the Jedi Rocks number is a fun scene, but its a shame that Lapti Nek (the song you may hear playing now) was excised from the Trilogy.

So this is the reason for the founding of the Lapti Nek Preservation Society. We wish to preserve the song Lapti Nek, so that it will not be forever lost (like a certain ark) in the Lucasfilm archives.

So we are here to remember Lapti Nek, so a part of the Star Wars trilogy will not be forgotten. Just by visiting this page, you can help keep Lapti Nek alive in the hearts of Star Wars fans.
